Former WWE Referee Tim White Passes Away At 68
WWE has announced that one of their long-time referees, Tim White, has passed away at the age of 68
White was a referee for the company for a long time. He started out in 1985 and worked his way up to big matches like the Hell in a Cell match between Undertaker and Mankind at "King of the Ring" in 1998. He was often the referee for the main event until he hurt his shoulder during a match between Chris Jericho and Triple H at "Judgment Day" in 2002.
White would go back to his favourite role in WWE, but during the last three-count of the match between Chris Jericho and Christian at "WrestleMania XX" in 2004, he hurt his shoulder again. Due to the shoulder injury coming back, he was no longer able to be a referee. Instead, he became a backstage official and talent agent.
White's last on-screen role was in an episode of WWE's "Hidden Treasures" on A&E about Andre the Giant. In the 1980s, when Andre's career was just getting started, he became very close to him and became his handler while they were on the road. He became one of his best friends and worked with the WWE Hall of Famer all over the world as he had big moments in the WWF and filmed "The Princess Bride." Since they were so close, it made sense for him to be interviewed for the 2018 HBO documentary "Andre the Giant."
WWE put out the following statement about White's death:
The news that longtime referee Tim White has died is sad for WWE.
Tim White worked hard as a referee and official for WWE for more than 20 years. White's long and successful career began in 1985, when he worked part-time with Andre the Giant and as a referee.
During his time there, he was the referee for some of WWE's biggest matches, including the famous Hell in a Cell Match between Undertaker and Mankind at King of the Ring 1998.
White's in-ring career was pretty much over after he hurt his shoulder, but he was still a big part of WWE as an official and talent agent until 2009.
WWE is sorry for White's death and wants his family, friends, and fans to know that
We at Wrestling Inc. want to express our deepest sympathy to Tim White's family, friends, and coworkers.WWE superstars and former coworkers are reacting quickly to the news, which shows how important White was to the people in his life.
